Savannah with a side of grit(s)

The Hostess City is steeped in rich American history, wrapped in intricate ironwork, and surrounded by greenery that feels straight out of a secret garden.

What fascinates me most about Savannah is the way it draws in so many different kinds of people. You’ve got the history buffs who come for the obvious—the Revolutionary War sites, the antebellum homes, the haunted lore. Then there are the bachelorette crews here for themed brunches and a good time. Artists flock to the city thanks to SCAD, where world-class creativity is cranked out year after year. You’ve got snowbirds headed north from Florida, military families relocating for duty, and of course, let’s not forget, the food lovers chasing those down home Lowcountry flavors that just hit different.

As a history guide in this city, I’ve made it my mission to spotlight the untold, the overlooked, and the stories that don’t always make it onto the typical walking tour.

Don’t get me wrong…I love the well-told stories too. But here’s where we are: I’m kicking off a series on Savannah. Each post will focus on a different point of interest in the city (or just outside it), and together, we’re going to dig into the strange, beautiful, and sometimes downright messy history that makes this place unforgettable.

If this sounds like an adventure you’d like to follow along with, then stay tuned!
